Our AI Policy

Loujo: AI Ethics & Child Safeguarding Policy

1. Purpose and Scope

This policy outlines how Loujo utilises Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate educational content. Our primary commitment is to enhance the learning experience for neurodivergent children while maintaining the highest standards of safety, privacy, and transparency in line with UK law.

2. The "Safety by Design" Principle

In accordance with the ICO’s Children’s Code, Loujo operates on a "Safety by Design" basis.

  • Age-Appropriate Content: Our AI models are strictly filtered to ensure all generated lyrics, rhythms, and themes are appropriate for Key Stage 1 and 2 learners (ages 5–11).

  • High-Privacy Defaults: Settings are set to the highest level of privacy by default. No personal data is used to "train" public or third-party AI models.

3. Data Protection & UK GDPR Compliance

We treat "voice data" and "creative output" as sensitive personal information.

  • Data Minimisation: We only collect the absolute minimum amount of data required to generate a song or lesson.

  • No Profiling: Loujo does not use AI to track or profile children for commercial purposes. AI is used solely for pedagogical support—specifically to improve information retention.

  • Right to Erasure: Parents and schools have the right to request the immediate deletion of any AI-generated content or associated metadata at any time.

4. Human-in-the-Loop (Safeguarding)

AI is a tool, not a substitute for human oversight.

  • Content Moderation: We use automated keyword "blacklists" and sentiment analysis to prevent the generation of inappropriate or harmful lyrics.

  • Teacher/Parent Review: Loujo encourages a "co-creation" model where an adult reviews the AI-generated lyrics before they are finalised as a song.

5. Algorithmic Transparency & Bias Mitigation

We acknowledge that AI can carry inherent biases.

  • Bias Monitoring: We regularly audit our AI outputs to ensure they do not reinforce stereotypes or exclude the specific linguistic needs of the Traveller community or other minority groups.

  • Explainability: We provide clear, non-technical explanations for parents and educators on how our AI works and why it prioritises specific musical patterns for dyslexic learners.

6. Safeguarding and Reporting

  • Reporting Mechanism: If a user (child, parent, or teacher) encounters an AI output they deem inappropriate, a "Report Content" button is available on every screen.

  • Response Time: Reports are reviewed by our Lead Safeguarding Officer within 24 hours.

  • Staff Checks: All Loujo staff involved in the development of the platform undergo Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks.

Key UK Compliance Checklist for Your Pilot:

To be fully compliant when approaching UK schools, ensure you have:

  1. A DPIA (Data Protection Impact Assessment): A mandatory requirement for "high-risk" processing like AI or children’s data.

  2. A Privacy Notice for Children: A simplified version of your privacy policy using icons and plain English.
